United Kingdom is famous for its many fantastic writers, the stiff upper lip and incessant Tea drinking. London houses the world’s first subway, or tube as it is known and Windsor Castle is the oldest royal residence in the world that is still being used by the royal family.

 

France traces its roots back to 843 and the treaty of Verdun. It is today the most visited country, some 82 million tourists every year. France has given the world so many things; Jeans, the bikini and Champagne!

Germany traces its name to Julius Cesar who started using the name Germania for the people east of the Rhine. Today more than 5000 varieties of beer are produced in Germany and it is also the birthplace of the coffee-filter.

World-famous for its food and wine, it became a unified country in 1863. It houses the world’s oldest film festival and is the birthplace of innovations such as the barometer and the thermometer. Even the word trivia derives from Italian.

Spain is the second largest country in Western Europe and 24% of the country is situated above 1000 m. The capital, Madrid, is located in the exact centre of the country. There is even a sign in the Puerta del Sol marking the exact location.
